Your chimney works hard all year, but you probably don't think about it until something goes wrong. These five providers stand out for their clear service menus, transparent pricing, and local reputations.
The State of Chimney Care in the Midwest
Chimney sweeping and inspection is a niche trade that most homeowners only think about once a year—or when a leak appears. In the Midwest, where wood-burning fireplaces and older masonry chimneys are common, demand for annual inspections, creosote removal, and repair work stays steady. The best providers combine old-school craftsmanship with modern conveniences like online booking and upfront pricing. Whether you're in a small town like Forreston, Illinois, or a metro like Indianapolis, you want a chimney professional who shows up on time, explains what they find, and charges a fair rate. The five businesses below each bring something different to the table, from fourth-generation family ownership to specialized masonry restoration.
How We Evaluated These Chimney Providers
We looked at five key factors: service scope (do they handle sweeping, inspections, and repairs?), pricing clarity (are rates published or easy to request?), local fit (do they serve the communities they claim?), customer feedback (are there testimonials or reviews?), and credentials (certifications, years in business, family legacy). S&S Chimney Wizards stands out for its fourth-generation family story and straightforward service menu with listed prices. Baun's Chimney Sweeping impresses with its broad range of chimney and fireplace services and a memorable brand personality. Clean Sweep 317 offers a deep bench of inspection levels and masonry work, backed by a large volume of completed jobs. Indiana Chimney Sweep brings CSIA certification and a wide service area across central and southern Indiana. The Mad Hatter combines chimney care with wood stove and insert sales, plus a strong local presence in Westfield and beyond.

How to Choose a Chimney Professional
Start by checking credentials. A CSIA certification is a strong signal that the technician has passed rigorous testing. Next, look for clear pricing. Some companies list rates online, while others require a quote—either is fine, but you should never feel pressured. Ask about service scope: can they handle both routine sweeping and unexpected repairs? Read testimonials to see if customers mention punctuality, cleanliness, and follow-through. Finally, consider location. A local provider who knows your area's weather and common chimney issues can be a real advantage. Don't be afraid to call two or three companies and compare their answers.
Streamlining Your Chimney Maintenance
You can simplify chimney care by setting a recurring calendar reminder for an annual inspection. Many providers, like Baun's Chimney Sweeping, offer free reminder services. When you book, ask if they send text or email confirmations. Keep digital records of each service visit, including photos of any repairs. If you're selling your home, having a recent inspection report can speed up the process—as one S&S Chimney Wizards customer noted, quick repairs saved thousands in potential delays. A little organization goes a long way toward a safer, more efficient fireplace.

Whether you need a basic sweep or a full masonry rebuild, the Midwest has no shortage of qualified chimney professionals.
